John Sellman, Jr. – A Life in Music

Energy, excitement, and creativity are at the heart of everything John Sellman, Jr. brings to the stage. A true multi-hyphenate—singer, songwriter, musician, producer, radio host, and actor—John embodies passion and drive across every corner of the music world.

John’s musical journey began in church, where at just 13 years old he stepped into the role of Director and Assistant Minister of Music. His early years were also spent in the Annapolis High School Marching Band, where he showcased his talents as a trumpeter, drummer, and singer. By 2002, his gift for writing and arranging gave birth to the gospel group One Accord, who went on to record three albums. Their 2010 release, Only the Beginning, launched them into recognition throughout the Baltimore–Washington region, opening doors for John to share the stage with gospel greats including Isaiah Thomas, Steven Hurd, and Britney Wright.

Never one to stay in one lane, John expanded his artistry in 2014 to embrace R&B, rock, and neo-soul. His work with the fusion band Electric Culture marked a new era, where his smooth vocals and soulful writing drew comparisons to artists like David Hollister, Musiq Soulchild, and John Legend. His versatility also shines in country music, where he performs nationally as a drummer and keyboardist with Wesley Spangler.

John’s creativity extends beyond the stage. He has written, produced, and performed on soundtracks for plays and films, served as Music Director for the stage play What If (2018), and as Assistant Music Director for the film Broken (2019). He stepped behind the camera for his directorial debut with the 2023 film For All Have Sinned.

Since 2017, John has been carving his own path as a solo artist under the banner of Chossen Music. His singles—including the neo-soul favorite Memba and the country-inspired I Should Have Tried Something—highlight his range and are available on all digital platforms. Now, along with the Chossen Music Band, John is preparing for the next leg of his race towards greatness! Expect more music as well as more opportunities to be drawn into John Sellman, jr.

Through every song, performance, and project, John continues his mission:
“My hope is to let my music be the language that everyone understands—and can speak in their own life.”
