Energy, excitement, and creativity are just a few words to describe what John Sellman, Jr. delivers through his musical abilities. As a singer, songwriter, musician, producer and even radio host and actor, John has and continues to wear many hats as a musical presence in society, and represents passion and drive to all avenues of music.
John began to craft his musical gift in church where at the age of 13, he assumed the role as Director and Assistant Minister of Music. He was also an active member of the Annapolis High School Marching band as trumpeter, drummer, and singer. In 2002 his passion for writing lead him to birth the singing group One Accord. The group went on to record two gospel albums and in 2010, the third album entitled “Only the Beginning”, spring boarded the group to be highly recognized throughout the Baltimore/ Washington Area and surround states. John has been honored to share the stage of gospel greats such as Isaiah Thomas, Steven Hurd, and Britney Wright to name a few.
In 2014 John switched gears and branched his love for music to other genres. He begin writing music for the newly formed R&B/Rock fusion band Electric Culture, and started really finding his niche as a Neo-Soul artist. He has been compared to the sounds of David Hollister, Musiq Soulchild, and John Legend just to name a few. He also dabbles in the Country/Western genre as the drummer and keyboardist for National Recording Artist Wesley Spangler, performing in varies clubs, bars, and venues across the nation.
John has also earned a place in plays and movies, as the music writer, producer, and performer on various soundtracks, as well as an actor. John was the music director for the stage play "What If" - 2018, and assistant Music Director for the movie "Broken" - 2019. John is also making his directorial debut in the highly anticipated movie “For All Have Sinned” set to release April of 2023.
In 2017 John began marketing himself and his talents as a solo artist under the umbrella of “Chossen Music”. Since 2020 Chossen Music has released singles such as "Memba" and giving a nod to his background in country music, “I Should have Tried Something”. Both songs are available on all digital music platforms.
John continues his stride to make his mark in the musical world. "The hope is to let my music be the language that everyone understands and can speak it in their life."
